I grew up in Zurich, Switzerland surrounded by art, design and photography, as my father was a Graphic Designer.
In the early 70’s we immigrated to Sydney, Australia – a major sea change living right on the city harbour. I was consumed by fishing, the ocean and all its “goings on”. On finishing High School I attended the Australian Maritime College and became a professional fisherman for several years.
Disillusioned with the pro fishing I returned to Sydney where I assisted several photographers over a number of years before eventually opening my own studio. The next two decades was all commissioned photography working in many countries with all types of creative briefs – mainly automotive.
My mindset changed once again. Leaving commissioned briefs allowed me the time to shoot my own images, which became the catalyst to launch my stock library specialising in back plate imagery aimed at the advertising, automotive and transportation market. Bearstock.com was born.
The time it took to build the Bear Stock asset base rejuvenated my passion once again to re-engage in commissioned briefs. This allowed the balance between shooting specific stock imagery, commissioned work, my personal projects and solo exhibitions.
Photography is not a job to me. It’s my life style, which allows me to create powerful images that communicate an idea, a sentiment and a vision whilst also offering the time to wet a line in the hope of hooking a big one!
